Arbor Spectra

Within the last two decades, scientists have discovered trees have the remarkable ability to communicate with each other through the fungal network that connects to the roots of the trees. Through this network, they can send nutrients, support their saplings, cut off nutrients to competing trees, send nutrients between species, and generally have an active community within the groves they are growing. This expression of consciousness is a new understanding and recognition of the sentience of trees. Humanity has long proclaimed itself to be the most intelligent on Earth. But the more we discover, the more we see that our limited understanding only recognized our own form of intelligence.

We are in a direct symbiotic relationship with trees, like Yin and Yang. When they breathe out, we breathe in, and vice versa. The roots of trees look remarkably similar to our own lungs. Arbor Spectra is a series that explores the multiple ways trees reflect our own consciousness. In a time when human destruction is at its highest and most devastating, I hope to bring a level of awareness and compassion about our natural land kin in the hopes we can find a way to live in harmony once more with our fellow planetary inhabitants.
